Storytelling for the Digital Age

with No Comments

Storytelling has been around in one form or another for as long as humans have walked the earth.

It’s how we share our traditions.  Our culture.  Our beliefs, hopes and dreams.

These are exciting times for storytelling!

The digital revolution has given us new tools and platforms to share our stories worldwide.  And nothing is more powerful for telling stories than video.

Video is unparalleled at showing people, places and events as they really are.  It elicits memory and emotion.  It inspires action.

There’s just one problem.

Few people really know how to shoot video, beyond hitting the record button.

A quick spin through YouTube is all the proof you need.  More than 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute – and most of it is … well … crap!  Amusing, yes.  Informative, quite often.  But professional looking? Not so much.

Here’s the thing. You don’t need $50,000 worth of equipment to shoot quality video.  Nor do you have to spend years in school.

There are simple techniques you can start using now to make your videos look more professional – no matter what kind of camera equipment or editing software you’re using.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be going through what I consider to be the “7 Sure Signs of Amateur Video,” and will teach you easy ways to avoid them.

It may not turn you into the next Steven Spielberg, but it will help you take your videos to the next level.

Watch for a new blog post every Monday!
